About the interview
What the exam actually tests
The naturalization interview is not a test of knowledge. It checks whether you can understand and answer the kind of Korean you need to live here. So preparing means speaking out loud, not memorizing.

Short, spoken, and face to face
It is over in about ten minutes
Not long. But you have to listen and answer on the spot, which is where knowing something on paper and saying it out loud turn out to be different things.
The interviewer reads the questions aloud
There is no question sheet. You listen. At an unfamiliar speed and accent, even a question you know can slip past you.
Getting through matters more than perfect grammar
Your sentences do not have to be flawless. Answer what was asked, clearly enough to be understood.
How it goes
- 1
Arrival and check-in
Your ID and notice are checked. Arrive with time to spare — walking in rushed means starting the first question out of breath.
- 2
Waiting
You wait until your name is called. This is the longest part. Steadying your breathing helps more than running answers through your head.
- 3
The interview
It starts with basic questions, then reading, then questions, then the anthem. If you did not catch something, you may ask to hear it again.
- 4
Finishing
You are not told the result there. It comes later by notice.

What actually helps

Say it out loud, do not just read
The answer in your head and the answer that comes out of your mouth are not the same. Only the ones you have actually said will come out on the day.
Practise listening first
If you prepare by reading questions, hearing them will feel unfamiliar. Practise answering while listening.
Keep answers short
A word or two is usually enough. Long sentences tangle, and a tangled sentence does not get through.
Speak clearly
You do not need to be fast. Slow and clear carries much better.
Practise in the real order
